DESCRIPTION
The Chateau Kirwan 2014 is a wine from the Margaux appellation, located in the Medoc region of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. A wine that can be consumed either quite young or after plenty of time spent ageing in the bottle, the 2014 vintage of Chateau Kirwan is a great and complex Margaux indeed. The blend consists of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Following a manual harvest, the fruit was carefully sorted in both the vineyard and the cellar before fermentation with exogenous yeasts took place is small, thermoregulated stainless steel vats. The wines were then aged for 18-22 months in French oak barrels, of which around one third is new.
In the glass, this Chateau Kirwan wine from Margaux displays an intense red colour and gives off quite a grand palette of freshly ripened dark berry. The attack in the mouth is bold and vibrant. The mid-palate is fleshy, almost juicy (with plenty of scrumptious fruit present), all upon very elegant, distinguished tannins with a refined grain. The tannic structure and balance of this wine reveals Cabernet Sauvignon that is perfectly concentrated and gradually ripened. The fruity finish is persistent. This wine is very nicely balanced on the whole. It is indeed a great Margaux classic.
